I’m a member at Digital Photography School Forums and enjoyed their weekly assignments. The assignments are good and helps you expand your knowledge of photography. The assignments are also broad that they don’t alienate point and shoot users like me.

But one particular assignment almost did. The F/16 weekly assignment. I thought, ok, there’s no way my PnS camera can get that kind of aperture. My Canon Powershot A710IS has an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/8 only. I was about to decide to skip this assignment when I remembered I read somewhere that the apertures values of a PnS camera have an equivalent value to the aperture values of a DSLR. That an f/2.8 in a PnS camera is not f/2.8 in a DSLR. I googled and finally stumbled into this article by a PRO photographer.

I’ll avoid his technical explanation and get down to the equivalent values.

Please don’t argue with me on the technicalities but instead check out the article here. I also remember Bryan Peterson mentioned this in his book, Understanding Exposure.

Anyway, I’m glad I found that article. This means I can still join the latest assignment! Wohoo!
